01 · TL;DR

Key points for gold today

  1. 1Spot gold is near $4,014 (−0.14%) this morning, still holding above $4,000 after Monday’s bounce from $3,978, but it is down about 6.2% over one month (TradingView).
  2. 2WTI fell further on hopes of US–Iran talks, and the 10-year yield eased to around 4.99%, supporting gold, while a dollar index (DXY) recovery to around 102 caps gains.
  3. 3The Fed meets on 27–28 Oct and a hold is expected, but CME FedWatch still prices the odds of a December hike at about 82%
  4. 4Resistance at $4,050 and $4,100; support at $4,000, $3,975 and $3,959 · Today watch US durable goods at 12:30 GMT and Conference Board consumer confidence at 14:00 GMT.
02 · TODAY’S DRIVERS

3 factors driving gold

  1. WTI
Oil eases on hopes of calmer Middle East tensions

Crude fell for a second day on diplomatic efforts to ease US–Iran tensions. WTI closed Monday down about 1.7% near $103, easing short-term inflation worries. Trading Economics says dip-buying ahead of the Fed decision also supported gold.

  2. FOMC
Markets still see about an 82% chance of a December Fed hike

The Fed starts its meeting today and is expected to hold at 3.75–4.00%, but still-high energy prices keep inflation risk alive, so CME FedWatch prices about an 82% chance of a December hike, weighing on non-yielding gold. FXStreet says gold could slip below $4,000 again if Fed Chair Kevin Warsh sounds hawkish.

  3. DXY
Dollar recovers to 102 even as yields dip

The dollar index (DXY) is near 101.98 after closing Monday up about 0.2% near 102.02, snapping a two-week losing streak and limiting gold’s recovery. The US 10-year yield eased to around 4.99% (TradingView), slightly lowering the cost of holding gold. For the full market picture, see today’s Forex News

04 · SCENARIOS

Upside / downside

▲ Upside

Holds $4,000 and breaks $4,050

The next levels are $4,100 and $4,150, with the 100-day SMA near $4,221 as a further target. Softer oil and lower yields would help, but FXStreet notes the 14-day RSI, though pointing up, remains in bearish territory and may limit gains.

▼ Downside

Breaks below $4,000

The next support is $3,975, the October low, followed by $3,959 (17 Jul) and $3,941, the year’s low. Pressure would come from a hawkish Fed or oil rising again on Middle East news.

Scenarios summarised from FXStreet analysis as of 26 Oct 2026. Not a trading recommendation.
