The Fed held rates at 3.75–4.00% in a 10–2 vote, the dollar (DXY) eased to around 102.2 and gold slipped to $4,039. Today markets watch US Core PCE, expected at 3.1%, at 12:30 GMT and the ECB decision at 13:15 GMT.
The ECB announces its decision at 13:15 GMT today, with markets expecting the deposit rate to stay at 2.50% after eurozone inflation rose to 3.8% in September. EUR/USD trades near 1.114 ahead of Lagarde at 13:45 GMT.
US September PCE is due at 12:30 GMT today, with Core PCE expected at 3.1% y/y from 3.0% and headline PCE at 3.6%. Q3 GDP, forecast at 3.2%, is released at the same time after the Fed held rates in a 10–2 vote.
The dollar index rose for a third day to 102.40 and gold bounced back to $4,055 as oil eased. Today watch the BoC at 13:45 GMT and the Fed decision at 18:00 GMT.
The Fed held rates at 3.75–4.00% on 28 Oct 2026, but Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack dissented in favour of a 0.25% hike. DXY held near 102.3 and gold traded around $4,030–4,055.
The dollar index rebounded to 102.02 and gold reclaimed $4,013 as WTI fell 1.7%. The Fed starts its two-day meeting; today watch durable goods and CB confidence.
The Brazilian real had its sharpest fall since 1999 after Lula won with 51.79%. USD/BRL hit 5.605 (+12.25%) and the Ibovespa fell about 15%, halting B3.
Gold ended the week at $3,994, down about 4.1%, while Brent closed at $116.72. The Fed, ECB and BoJ all set rates this week.
